How did I become a web-developer
For a very long time, I have been looking to break into the IT field and dreaming of a career in a global tech profession not bound by the constraints of geography. Yet, each time I would take a peek into this mystical world, I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options, and how far the rabbit hole goes down each one. Getting over the most common stereotypes around the IT profession was even harder. Techie should be good at maths, start coding young, continue with a specific college degree, and be an introverted genius, self-contained, and reluctant to contact with the outside world. Being known as a ‘social butterfly’, who considers herself ‘terrible’ in maths, I didn’t fall into the typical mold. Ever since a young age, I was encouraged to focus on what I was good at – the humanities. It can be easy to feel that, at my age, I already missed the boat when it comes to working in technology. Finally, at the end of 2019, I’ve decided to take that leap of faith and applied for a full-stack web developer program. I wish I could say that the chosen path was ‘as simple as a walk in the park’- It was far more challenging than anything I had ever done. Being an underdog in my class made me question my choice on numerous occasions, yet I couldn’t get enough of it. I graduated in the summer of 2020. I still get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options, the rabbit hole gets even deeper every time I try something new, but what was once fear now is the sense of excitement, thrill, and hunger for knowing more (often too much more at once). Creating something out of nothing feels like magic, this fast-moving industry never ceases to amaze me, the passion and drive of the tech sector are infectious, and I love being part of that at last. Web development is a craft, I work at it, continually improving, and keep challenging myself. And the limit? Only my imagination.
